The National Precursor Log Exchange (NPLEx) is a real-time electronic logging system used by pharmacies and law enforcement to track sales of over-the-counter (OTC) cold and allergy medications containing precursors to the illegal drug, methamphetamine.
Pharmacies can easily enter transactions through either a Web portal or Web service, eliminating bulky paper logs, and speeding up transaction times.
Not only does NPLEx track the amount of PSE individuals purchase, it automatically blocks the sale of PSE in excess of state or local limits.
"NPLEx has been a pleasantly easy tool for documenting PSE sales. We no longer need to be concerned about whether the customer has been buying PSE from other sources that day. The scanner has made the process very quick and easy and the support staff have been very helpful in getting my system up and running. Yesterday we were having problems logging on and I called the help desk. After a few minutes trying to walk me through the problem, the representative simply logged into my system and had me up and running in just a few minutes. Great support staff, thanks."

NPLEx is available 24/7 via a secure website, accessible from a device with internet connectivity.
NPLEx provides automated tools that give law enforcement the ability to "watch" suspicious buying patterns.
Know a suspect has just entered a store? NPLEx Store Feed allows up to three stores to be selected to watch in real time.
"In the year 2009, our Task Force has successfully indicted 54 individuals through the United States Attorney's Office, for the charge of conspiracy to purchase pseudoephedrine with the intent to manufacture methamphetamine. This accounts for 28% of the federal drug indictments for the Eastern District of Missouri. The St. Louis County Police Department's Methamphetamine Precursor Diversion Task Force would not have been this successful without the assistance of our real time precursor tracking system."
